Smartcat has a distinct wordmark with a characteristic, recognizable ‘S.’ While keeping the wordmark, we adjusted the geometry of the letters to add optical compensations and improve its legibility and balance. We also polished the ligature version of the logo and expanded its application possibilities.

We needed to make website updates faster while improving their design quality and consistency. To achieve this, we developed a website design system with interconnected design and code components and implemented a bespoke custom CMS to assemble these components into live pages. This website builder allows teams across Smartcat to quickly add and edit pages without external design or engineering support.
One of the foundations of the Smartcat website design is a comprehensive color system that operates through color tokens—predefined color choices for every context and goal. Leveraging Figma variables and connecting them with the CSS library allowed us to easily implement light and dark modes for website components while keeping the palette concise and organized.
Aside from the design system implementation, we designed numerous nifty features to improve the design management and maintenance of the Smartcat website. Most noteworthy are: a flexible grid that reduced the number of breakpoints to one (therefore, only two versions of components needed to be designed: default and mobile), a performance-friendly framework for creating and implementing SVG animations, a structured style and guidelines for website illustrations, and a global website search with AI overviews.

We created a style for Smartcat’s brand visuals. These images evoke associations of dynamic motion, clarity, and growth by using a specific treatment of transparent materials, gradients, and lighting.
Smartcat is a platform at the intersection of advanced technology and human communication. Its visual identity reflects this positioning with a clean style and a dynamic approach to color, light, and motion. As the company evolves beyond translation into broader content creation, we have designed a scalable identity, shifting away from direct metaphors and focusing on the principles of typography, color, iconography, and logo usage.
